We were at RMHC Charleston for 280 days (nine months) because my daughter's VACTERL association required surgeries, including open heart surgery for Tetralogy of Fallot and long-gap esophageal anastomosis. She was born there and left 280 days later. We were so close to her, she did not have any of the social or emotional issues that kids have from so long in the NICU.
A family member was able to stay in the room, visit her for many hours daily and even into the night when things weren't going well. We would have never made it, and stayed together as an extended family, without this organization. Everyone was so kind, and there were three meals a day most days. They hosted us for Mother's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, back to school, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years, almost up to Valentine's Day. Thank God for RMHC Charleston!
